My interest in broadcasting began as a sophomore in high school.
Attending a private school allowed for a lot of free time during
the day. Much of mine was spent in the art department. The seniors
were allowed to play their stereos so the room was filled music.
By my junior year, the seniors were gone and so was the music. A
record player with microphone borrowed from the school AV department
fixed that. Soon I helped to form a small carrier current radio station
so the entire student body could hear. That station, WART, barely
made it to the end of campus.
My budding interest in art quickly turned to radio. I found myself
listening to great AM stations around the country at night. WLS in
Chicago, WABC New York, WOWO Fort Wayne Indiana and the list goes
on. I had been bitten by the radio bug.
After graduation, a year at the Broadcasting Institute of Maryland
prepared me for what I thought was a life in radio. I spent the next
12 years working on-air in towns of 7,000 to my hometown major market
of Baltimore. I even spent some time as a TV news reporter.
The late 80’s brought a major change to the industry and it
was time to try something else. I’ve owned or managed restaurants
since. My interest in broadcasting has never waned and I was back
in radio in the mid 90’s and owning a neighborhood bar and
grille were most of the patrons were also my listeners.
Today I still manage a multi-million dollar steak house and am active
voice-over artist.
